Fast forward 3-4 years, I began to see a pattern in my personal finance. I usually save 3-4 months diligently but I would ultimately feel really miserable inside. Then in the following month I would spend most of what I saved and I can't seem to escape this cycle.
I was listening to a few podcasts and came across Sethi again. Most of his idea made perfect sense to me and exactly what I was going through. Yes, finance is all about numbers. But there is another crucial ingredient which is "Psychology". Know yourself and use basic psychology wherever it can help you reach your goal.
My trouble was I didn’t define my “Rich Life” aligned with my values and spending is a skill (not saving) which I need to spend on things which gives me value and meaning to me.
Although most of his advices are target to the American audience, as a non-American, I found a lot of interesting ideas to apply. Overall are a good read.
Some of the broad ideas which helped me both from the book and his interviews.
“Spend extravagantly on the things you love, and cut costs mercilessly on the things you don’t.”
"Don't ask 30$ questions. Ask 30000$ questions"
"Design your rich life and your rich life will be different from others".
Develop a conscious spending plan. Yes, budget don't work.
Such a great book. Easy to understand and follow along.
Although it's my first finance book, I can feel the authors chad personality inside me. Only have read 50 pages till now and feel like I know too much. Definitely recommended !!

I'm a big fan of Tim Ferris and in many of his books and podcasts he asks people a really good question. It's not "What is your favorite book?" or "What are you reading now?" Which are all good questions and bad questions. I mean honestly, if you are reading a book called Atheism for Dummies and the conversation comes up at church, that is kind of awkward. I would be tempted to not answer honestly.
But Tim asks a great question: "What is a book that you've gifted frequently?" This immediately shows that you are a gift giver, generous person and thoughtful too, unless of course you are giving the gift of RL Stine books, then you should be flogged. But I digress.
This is the book that I have gifted high school graduates the most. Over the years I've given at least 5-8 away to them. I don't think they have read it and yet I encourage them to. But it's one of those things that I know one day they will come to me and confess they never read it until now and then they would have to leave and make more money under duress due to the fact they didn't read the book and their financial situation is a mess. But I will sit back and gloat in the wonderful knowledge that they SHOULD have listened but alas, many will not.
The book is a blend of off-kilter, foul language (which is hilarious because these are church families) but overall very good solid financial advice. My wife and I look at the criteria in this book and we are happy since we have met most of the author's suggestions/requirements.
A lot of it i had an idea of. but this book gets you to change your mindset and gets your to start acting to get you to your financial goal. I did have to look up somethings as its based around the American 401k and Roth IRA. Since I live in Canada with the RRSP and TFSA. But overall very happy with his book.
